Radiology ASM Program

The Radiology program for RANZCR Perth 2010 is planned around two main themes of Abdominal Imaging and Vascular Imaging & Intervention, with Categorical courses incorporating Clinical and Pathology correlation with the Radiology content.

We are delighted to have Prof Marc Levine attend the meeting as the Carestream Professor and share with us his extensive expertise in abdominal radiology. Prof Levine is Professor of Radiology and Chief of Gastrointestinal Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with over 100 publications as well as nine books on the subject of gastrointestinal radiology. It will be feast for the GI tract!

Liver, pancreas and biliary imaging will be covered in depth with key lectures from Prof Andy Adam and Dr Ashley Guthrie. Prof Adam is a a pioneer in Biliary imaging and intervention. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology and as President of eight national and international societies, including the Royal College of Radiologists and the European Society of Radiology. He has published over 200 scientific papers and book chapters, and has edited ten books. Dr Ashley Guthrie is based in the internationally renowned Liver Unit at St James University Hospital, Leeds, UK. His main areas of interest are liver and pancreatic MRI and CT.

Abdominal cancer imaging and intervention is an expanding field and will be covered in depth with the help of Associate Professor Lindsay Machan of the University of British Columbia and Interventional Radiologist at Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Center Vancouver. Prof Machan has great insight into new therapies and how to develop them in the field of interventional radiology.

Dr James P Earls MD is currently Vice President of Fairfax Radiological Consultants in Virginia, USA, where he is also Director of the Cardiac CT Program. He is also Co-Director of the Cardiac CT Program at INOVA Heart and Vascular Institute, and Director of Body and Cardiovascular MRI at INOVA Fairfax Hospital and Fairfax MRI Center, Falls Church, Virginia. He has authored over 100 books, chapters, articles and abstracts on advanced imaging technologies. His extensive experience pioneering new techniques in cardiac and vascular imaging will be an invaluable contribution to these portions of the program.

Closer to home, Associate Professor Sudhakar Venkatesh of the National University of Singapore will be bringing his expertise to the Abdominal program including the hot topic of liver MRI Elastography.

As well as the international speakers there will be, as always, a strong national and local faculty. In addition, there will be review sessions covering popular areas including musculoskeletal imaging, chest radiology, and maxillofacial imaging, as well as sessions dedicated to current important trends in informatics, radiation exposure and risk management. There should be something for everyone.
